Speed Monitoring Update: Trerice Terrace results

St Dennis Parish Council has completed a seven week deployment of the mobile Speed Indicator Device (SID) on Trerice Terrace, following concerns raised by residents about vehicle speeds and increasing traffic levels. The SID records the speed of every passing vehicle, helping us build an accurate picture of how drivers are using the road.

What the SID Recorded

Between 13th February and 31st March 2026, the device logged 1,829 vehicles travelling through the area. Traffic was noticeably heavier in the outgoing direction, with 1331 vehicles recorded leaving the village and 498 entering.

Typical speeds are low

The good news is that most drivers are travelling at sensible speeds:

• Average speeds were 18.71 mph (incoming) and 19.81 mph (outgoing)

• 85% of drivers were travelling at or below 20-22 mph, depending on direction

This shows that the majority of motorists are driving responsibly and well within the expected limits for this residential area.

A Small Number of High Speeds

While the overall picture is positive, the SID did record a very small number of vehicles travelling at higher speeds:

• 15 vehicles exceeded 40 mph

• The highest speeds recorded were 57 mph (incoming) and 77 mph outgoing)

These incidents are isolated but concerning, and they highlight why continued monitoring is important.

What happens next

The Parish Council will continue rotating the SID's around key locations in the village. This helps us:

• Monitor driver behaviour over time

• Identify areas where speeding may be an issue

• Support road-safety initiatives

• Respond to concerns raised by residents

Your feedback is always welcome. If you have any concerns about speeding in your area, please contact the Parish Council office.
